Greetings, my name is Lindsey Duran. I am from Phoenix, Arizona and currently I’m on the path to earning my Bachelor’s degree in Pediatric Nursing. Recently I was accepted to the St. James Research Centre Global Studies Internship in Falkirk, Scotland. This once in a lifetime experience will not only allow me to learn and become immersed in other cultures from around the world, but more importantly make an impact in the lives of others. From a young age, I knew that I wanted to dedicate my life to service and help improve the lives of people around me. When I was just eight years old, I was diagnosed with a debilitating nerve disease, known as CIDP, that changed my life in many ways. I spent a great deal of time in hospitals for procedures, and nurses were there for every step comforting me and guiding me along the way. This life changing experience, difficult as it was, led me to my love of helping others and I will be forever grateful for all who helped me discover this passion. In the past year, I was notified that due to COVID, my waitlist for nursing school was upwards of two years. Finding out this news was quite discouraging, but I decided that this would be the perfect chance to travel abroad. When I started searching for programs abroad, I wanted to find something that would allow me to truly immerse myself into a foreign culture and make an impact. I was about to give up on my search, when I stumbled upon St. James Research Centre. The more I read, the more I fell in love with this program and its core beliefs. I am scheduled to leave in June for Falkirk where I will spend sixth months volunteering my time at St. James Research Centre to help aid in the intervention effort of putting an end to Sex Trafficking. In addition, I will be taking classes where fellow global leaders will teach me about everything from crisis intervention to Non-profit Management. Before I am able to embark on this next chapter of my life, I need help raising funds to help me afford living and travel expenses while I am partaking in the Internship. These funds will go directly to me and help me pay for: housing, food, airfare, and other living expenses while I am abroad. Donations made from the U.S. are eligible for a charitable tax deductible at the end of the year. I am so grateful for your time, consideration, and generosity to help me be a part of such a unique opportunity. Thank you again and have a wonderful day!
